Tropical Blooms Farm in Cairns
Tropical Blooms is one of Australias major producers of tropical flowers and foliages. Established in 1986 by Deane and Sue-Anne Hiles, the farm is situated in the picturesque Mulgrave Valley surrounded by world heritage mountains just 15 minutes south of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland.
Nestled into a corner of rainforest surrounded on three sides by the waters of Mackey Creek, the area forms an oasis of jungle surrounded by fields of sugar cane.
With over 10,000 sq metres of flower and foliage beds, some as high as 3 metres, and combined with the fact that we use almost no toxic chemicals to grow our flowers its no coincidence that the area is a haven for birds and animals.
When next you are unpacking a box of our exotic tropical flowers you might spare a thought for our dedicated pickers who at dawn rain hale or shine venture out into this wall of vegetation to pick your tropicals.
Giant green tree frogs plus a myriad of other frogs, lizards, birds and creatures thrive in this environment. They form the staple diet for our rare and beautiful blue pythons and the huge brown water pythons. A rustle in the plants could be the dog chasing a Bandicoot or it may be a wild boar snuffling around the creek bank, you are never quite sure. Although our pickers do know that the crocadiles in the creek help keep the numbers down, but, then again crocs do have legs too.
So welcome to our life down on the farm in our tropical world of jungle, rain and scary things.
